AFL Dramas - Week Five - Round 6 Blog.
High drama in Launceston
One of the most controversial matches of the modern era has ended in a bizarre draw between St Kilda and Fremantle at Aurora Stadium in Launceston.
A furious debate has erupted after full time result, when the siren sounded and the Dockers led by one point. With the deafening crowd noise, the umpires failed to hear it and play continued for several seconds after.
Ultimately, St Kilda midfielder Steven Baker was awarded a kick 'after the siren', to which he missed and resulted in a farcical draw - 13.16 (94) to 14.10 (94).
Give Freo the points: Lethal
"Do you go with what should have happened or do you abide by the rules?" said Matthews describing the event as an 'intriguing philosophical debate' and fully supported the decision that the final result should rest with the AFL Commission.
"The only reason Fremantle don't get the points is that if you hide behind the rules."Do you lean towards truth and justice because they were in front when the siren sounded (even though it was not loud enough) and it (the match) should have ended then.
Leigh Matthews, article : Whole article available here.
Shaw wins Rd 5 Rising Star
Young Collingwood defender Heath Shaw is the round five nominee for the NAB AFL Rising Star award.
The 20-year-old, who played six matches in 2005, has impressed for the Magpies at senior level, picking up 25 possessions in the Anzac Day victory over Essendon and another 23 touches in the round five win over Port Adelaide.

AFL News, Saint Kilda and Fremantle Draw, Blog.
Well what's going to happen? Chris Connoly is fuming and rightly so, Grant Thomas is playing confused, keyword being playing, so what will the AFL decisions board decide,
chuck them back out there for 20 seconds and replay it? yeah right,
Give the four points to Fremantle?
Leave the draw to stand?
Saints could argue that the time should have been stopped or was stopped during the ball up, which is when the siren apparently went off.
But the Fremantle dockers have the better point the siren did go and the behind resulted after the apparent siren.
I heard the time keeper blew the siren and walked off to get his crap together, only to come back and see the game still being played.
What's your view?
Should the Draw Stand as is?
